Book Reviews: My last 5 reads
2020. The mission continues…
As mentioned in my previous post back in Feb 2020, I’m on a mission to read as much as possible.
Here’s a summary of 5 reads since then.
1. Love & Courage by Jagmeet Singh
An incredible open and personal memoir of Jagmeet Singh and his family’s journey, overcoming alcoholism, abuse, financial debt and finding oneself.
Being a Sikh myself there were lots of points here that I could relate to, especially some of the bullying scenarios during school, however, the book has been written in such a way that everyone can understand.
This is a raw and openly honest account; especially taking into account Jagmeet’s position as NDP Political Leader.

2. It’s All in Your Head: Get Out of Your Way by Russ
This book is a collection of thought-provoking quotes, lyrics and stories taken from Russ’s catalogue and own story; showcasing how to build a healthy mindset and build confidence. Russ, the author, is a huge advocate for self-motivation or doing things ‘your way’, so this book adds to his repertoire of tools.
Quirky and bold in delivery yet bitesize for easy, practical, everyday re-reading.

3. Sweat The Technique by Rakim
A detailed account on the history and journey behind one of the greatest hip-hop lyricists ever.
Explaining his origins, family history, musical journey and behind the scenes stories from some of his greatest hits (Know the Ledge, I Ain’t No Joke, I Know You Got Soul, Move The Crowd, the list goes on) which at the time of release circa ‘80s were pushing the musical / lyrical boundaries of the genre. The story behind the signing with Dr. Dre and leaving Aftermath. All whilst maintaining integrity and taking a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
The book is split into 5 topics: Purpose, Inspiration, Spirituality, Consciousness and Energy. A must for all Rakim / hip-hop fans

4. Creative Blindness by Dave Trott
Having read all previous books from Dave Trott, I felt compelled to read this latest edition.
His unique storytelling and style of writing is the foundation of delivering poignant, out of the box, thoughts from meaningful story(re)telling; even after four books.
Intelligent, thought-provoking and creative. As always.
